Finnish Lessons

I read and reread Sahlberg’s book called “Finnish Lessons” in preparation for writing my 2012 policy paper for the Equity Center.  It is just excellent!  I recommend that everyone read it.  He details what it is that that country has done that has led to it leading the world in international assessments.  In many, many ways it is the exact opposite of where United States and Texas policy are or are heading, so in a way it is depressing to read.  We have so very much to do to un-do the harm of current policy and this fanatical movement toward privatization, and then to put into place the kinds of policy that support great teaching and learning.  Here is a link to a recent interview with Sahlberg that I think you will like reading:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/c-m-rubin/finland-education_b_2468823.html?utm_hp_ref=email_share
